Farewell to Mt. Desert Isle

Tuesday was my last day in Maine. Our last hike was up the south ridge of Champlain Mountain, another splendid walk. The day was misty, without the endless clear views of our earlier hikes, but with a beauty of its own.

A finger of fog creeps up the valley.

Stone.

From the summit we were treated to this magnificent sight, fog sweeping into Frenchman's Bay and rising over the Porcupine Islands.

And then it was time for the flight home.

it would be pretty easy to become very attached to a place like that.
