An Interesting Statistic from Iran

In Iran, Apple iPhones are banned by the government, and their import is prohibited by western sanctions related to the nuclear program, but six million Iranians own them.

Smuggling has always been very difficult to stop, in every age, in every country. Technically you can succeed, but at very high costs which almost always make it not worth the effort.

Black markets are tricky things - they have both detrimental and beneficial aspects to them. The key is striking a balance that minimizes the former and maximizes the latter, because you're sort of stuck living with them.
